Few months back I had ordered a sandwich. Somehow it took long time to arrive. The sandwich was not a grilled one. So, it seemed to be an easy sandwich to assemble and it's a wonder why it took so long. I don't remember the exact name of this sandwich. It tasted different and delicious. I thank the person who created this.
Like most foodies ..after smelling and tasting, I opened the sandwich and took out each item from the filling and tasted it. It was orange colored mayonnaise based sandwich with bits of papaya, cantaloupe, boiled french beans and cabbage. This filling was stuffed in hot dog rolls and cut into two. Though it contained 2 juicy, aromatic fruits it did not over power the taste.
You don't have to chop the fruits neatly, just chop them into rough chunks. Try to buy pre-chopped or frozen chopped french beans. You can use cabbage/ lettuce( these can be torn into bits). If the Tomato flavored mayonnaise is available- you can use it or just add tomato ketchup.
If you are making it for someone and if they ask you for the recipe please share it.
Makes- 6 sandwiches
Ingredients needed for this sandwich-
- 1 cup chopped papaya
- 1 cup chopped cantaloupe
- 1/2 cup cabbage /iceberg lettuce
- 1/2 cup french beans (frozen / fresh - you can steam or you can microwave it for few mins with 2 tsp water and drain) see that it is at room temperature before adding into the mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise (1/4 cup eggless mayonnaise + 1/4 cup thick hung curd)
- 2 tsp tomato ketchup
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Powdered black peppercorns 1/4 tsp or any type of hot sauce 1-2 tsp (I used black pepper)
- Dried mint powder (optional)
- 6 hot dog rolls or 12 bread slices
Making the filling-
Mix together mayonnaise, tomato ketchup, salt, pepper or hot chilli sauce. You can refrigerate this.
You can keep ready, all the cut fruits and vegetables in an airtight box in the refrigerator.
Just before eating mix in all the fruits and vegetables.
Avoid adding the juice of the fruits as it makes the filling- thin and runny.
You can fry the hot dog roll or bread slice with a little butter on the griddle or in a ricecooker.
Stuff this filling into hot dog rolls or lay them on a bread slice.
Precut the bread slice before arranging the filling as it is easier to manage.
Sprinkle little mint powder on the filling.
You can make open sandwiches or cover this with another slice.
Eat them immediately.
I have made it twice and each time everyone (even a family member who dislikes fruits in sandwiches and initially refused to eat this) was ready for more sandwiches.
